Joey Toogood is a self-represented artist and photographer based in South West London, graduating with a BA in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, in 2022.
Taking inspiration from personal stories and feminism, Toogood explores her experiences as a queer woman artist. Toogood views art as more than just a matter of skill or passion; it’s an addiction that surpasses all addictions. It replaces absence and restores the self. Toogood’s art reveals parts of herself that are hidden, even from her. It’s not a question of wanting, but needing to create. The artists identity and sense of self is inseparable from her work. Toogood’s work permits her to begin again, re-imagining a future of self liberation.
