ARTISTS’ EXPERIENCES AT WIMBLEDON ART FAIR

Rob Murray, Painter

“Wimbledon Art Fair is unlike any other open studios event I’m aware of in terms of number of visitors, number of studios and calibre of work on offer”.

  • "Sales are the most obvious factor – and plenty of visitors are genuinely hoping to buy if they see the right piece for them. I’ve also developed relationships with galleries that visit, and have received commission requests. Knowing that the Art Fair happens every six months also helps me to plan ahead and think about what new work I might want to have ready for the next one.

Selling aside, I find it a real boost to discuss my work with art lovers and potential buyers – and I’m always inspired to create new work afterwards.

Wimbledon Art Fair is unlike any other ‘open studios’ event I’m aware of in terms of the number of visitors, number of studios and calibre of work on offer. The office team and volunteers also ensure it runs smoothly and professionally. It has a great reputation and a very uplifting atmosphere."

  • "Absolutely! I always love participating in the show, and it’s a great way to get to know other members of our creative community, as well as engaging with the wider public.

We always have a large number of artists taking part – but the more doors open, the better! The show feels bigger, more lively and more diverse if as many artists take part as possible.

You don’t have to be selling; even if you’re just starting out as an artist - or for whatever reason don’t quite feel ready to sell your work - opening your studio as part of the Art Fair is the perfect way to get feedback on work in progress, practise speaking about your art and gauge the public’s response to ongoing projects. Aside from anything else, it’s a really fun four days with your fellow artists!"

Ghaz Ceramics, Ceramicist

“I have participated in a variety of other craft fairs but the WAS fair was the best advertised, attracting a very large number of potential clients”.

  • "Primarily beneficial because of the high level of sales and commissions received over the days of the fair. Also a great means of networking with new contacts including prestigious art galleries which provide new avenues of promotion and consequent sales of my artworks."

  • "Yes absolutely. I highly recommend artists participate in future fairs for the great experience."
