As a contemporary artist, my work is deeply influenced by my Barbadian heritage and the rich cultural traditions of the Taíno people. I explore the materiality of paint, meticulously crafting my own oil paints and employing a multi-layered technique to create immersive experiences. Inspired by the vibrant colours and dynamic mark-making of Taíno face paint and symbols, as well as the vastness of the ocean and cosmology, my art celebrates the tactile qualities of paint and the beauty of its unblended strokes. The work doesn't have a singular focal point, encouraging viewers' eyes to wander and discover new details with each gaze.
