Maylene Chou, an artist and illustrator of Chinese heritage, creates art that delves into diaspora identity and loneliness. Utilising a variety of mediums, loose brushstrokes, and rich textures, her work often features quirky creatures in urban landscapes, capturing a sense of displacement. Maylene’s art resonates with both children and the inner child within adults, aiming to evoke a sense of wonder and connection.
With a distinctive academic background in political science and historical research, Maylene refined her artistic skills at the Art Academy London and the Royal Drawing School. Beginning in September 2024, she will be pursuing an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University.
At Wimbledon Art Studio, Maylene transforms her lively observational sketches into larger works. This magical process turns the whimsical murmurs on pages to bold statements.
When not immersed in her art, Maylene enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her loving husband and three cats in Croydon.
